-3 pounds the first week
The first week of this is done. I have lost three pounds and quite honestly I didn't do very much to ensure success outside of having a great workout on Monday. I am committed to being more on top of planning meals this week. The weekend killed me so I am going to plan on Friday morning what I will eat on Saturday and Sunday. Three pounds is three pounds but it could have been better.
I got my hair cut yesterday instead of going to the gym, thus the low steps number. Definitely feel crappy. I'm pretty sure it is allergies.

OK Tuesday: 20419 Steps
I didn't make it to the gym on Tuesday but I still got over 20,000 steps. Tuesday is my day to volunteer at the school. Duke had preschool at 9:30. I dropped him off we celebrated his birthday at preschool. My big three year old was so proud to be the one blowing out the candles! I had lunch with Knight at 11:15. I hung around the school until noon when I went in to take the Knight's class pictures. Then I helped at the computer lab. I have definitely caught a cold. Ugh. I get my hair cut today at the gym so that bites into my working out time. I also want to have lunch with Prince and Princess at school today.

Monday good Monday: 32,283 Steps!
I had a fantastic Monday! Today will not be as stellar exercise-wise because it is my day to volunteer at the school. I help out in the Knight's computer lab after I have lunch with him on Tuesdays. I am also going to take a group picture of his class for the yearbook. Our annual Silent Auction is also coming up and I volunteered to make some calls for that. I co-chaired it last year and it about killed me. I backed way off this year. I am making some calls and coordinating the room parents.

7 miles and 950 calories!
Wow - it feels good to make it to the gym again! I went a few times when the kids were home for Christmas break, but I didn't have any intense days like today. I went for 7 miles and 950 calories! Woo hoo!
I was going to race home, shower, and then take Duke for a haircut, but since we passed by the place on the way home, we stopped as we passed it. I stayed down wind.
Happy to get 7 miles and 2 more hours! I'm already over 20,000 steps for the day and it is only 1:15. Woo hoo! It is laundry day too so there will be lots of running around delivering clothes to the kids' rooms. But first, a shower!

Sunday Steps and a New Ticker
Steps for Sunday: 17022.
Duke and I are heading to the gym today so I should be able to get into the mid-20000 low 30000 today.
I am going to add a new ticker to see how many steps I walk this year. A good goal: 15000 steps per day. 366x15000= 5,490,000.
Up one pound today - Princess made cookies and I ate some. Carbs are not my friend. If I am serious about this weight loss thing, I have to pay closer attention to them.

Day 2 of the D Word
Today is day two of the dreaded D word: diet. I am somewhat of an analytical person and prone to beating dead horses so I am am not going to wax poetic about lifestyle change and all of that. Making change is a day-by-day every day, choice-by-choice every-choice-matters type of thing. To be successful, you have to simply pay attention and be persistant. Yesterday was good - down 2 pounds, and yep I know that it is just water weight but it still makes me happy so don't remind me. I'm not doing anything fancy - just journaling what I eat, making better decisions, and running when I can. The kids are back in school this week. I was able to walk around the upstairs track while Princess had basketball last night for an hour. Yippee!

Happy New Year!
New Year, new goals. I have been back into running for about a month and a half, although I am sure I lost some ground with the kids home for Christmas break. I was at week four of the C25K program. My goal is to never have to start over with this program again and actually keep up with my running.
I have added a little ticker at the top of the blog. I am going to exercise for 300 hours this year. That does not seem too bad considering I ususally spend 1.5 hours at the gym each visit. I may add steps too.
I am also going to add a weight loss ticker. 50 pounds is a good goal for me. Honestly I would feel a lot better even losing 10-20.
The kids are at home for two more days. I will head back to the gym on Thursday and Friday. :)
Vision: Liking myself in pictures again.
Weight goal: -50 pounds Weight loss: 0 pounds

I'm back!
Whew! It's been a while but I am heading back to the gym again today. I was co-chair of our annual school festival this fall. In all honesty, I felt like I was working full time again. It was fun and now it is over and I am going to be making up for lost time.
Week #1 - walk for 5 minutes, run for 60 seconds, walk for 90 seconds for at least 20 minutes.
I am hoping to get 4 miles in.

Gym on Thursday
I made it to the gym yesterday. The Duke only let me go for 20 minutes. But it was 20 minutes I would not have gotten otherwise. I walked and chatted with a friend. 4 mph. :)

To get to the gym...
In order to actually make it to the gym, these are the things that have to happen.
- 0 of 4 kids can be sick. We live 1000 miles from home and I have never had a regular babysitter sitting in the wings.
- I still go if I am sick - unless it is the tummy flu.
- I have to put exercise above social mommy get-togethers. I belong to MOPS (Mother's of Pre-schoolers) and we have a meeting every week and an off week activity every other week. Unfortunately, I think I am going to have to quit this to get all of my workouts in per week.
- I need to be my own workout buddy. While it is a lot more fun to go to the gym with someone, I have to be my own motivator.
- I need to stay motiviated by creating reasonable goals and rewarding myself.
- Goal: lose 30 pounds in 7 months. Very do-able.
- Goal: Go to the gym at least 3 times per week.
- I cannot give in to the draw of being home alone when my 5 year old is in preschool. I love Tuesdays and Thursdays at home because I get some alone time when my 1 year old naps. It does not happen at any other time with 4 kids. This is definitely sanity-saving. I think I can still salvage some of this time by working out right away after I drop off the Knight at preschoool.
- I need to work out at times that work for me and not feel bad if I cannot go when it is convenient to someone else.
- Monday, Wednesday and Fridays need to be my regular workout days. Tuesdays and Thursdays can be back-ups and extra.
- I need to have "rewards" every 5 pounds and for 4+ workouts per week.
- I need a good menu per week using weight watchers or some other method.
And we begin again!
Dear Gym,
It's been a while! And I must say I have missed you. What happened? Well, life got in the way once again and I made the mistake of moving my workouts down on my priority list. Sigh... Life gets a bit nutso with four little rug rats running around.
I didn't post here, but I actually started off the school year in grand workout fashion - I hit the gym 4 times per week the first three weeks of school.
Then thing started getting busy. The kids' teachers needed help in class. Kids got sick. And in our house when one kid gets sick, four kids get sick.
My routine shifted.
A little weight was gained.
Not a lot but enough that my new clothes are a bit snug.
Things change today!
I have a new goal: I am going to run a 10K by my birthday (September 22). This is a big birthday for me. You know, the kind that ends in a "0". In honor of my 30s, my plan is to also lose 30 pounds by my birthday. Having four kids in 7 1/2 years has taken its toll on my body.
To put it simply - I want my body back!
I am not a pack rat, but I do have some pre-kid clothing. Yep - I too possess that article of clothing meant to strike fear into the hearts of women everywhere - my own version of the skinny jean. And I am not talking current fashion. I am talking my own particular pair of jeans that I wore at my lowest weight.
I plan to zip right past those jeans and buy a new pair in honor of my 40th birthday.
It starts today.
I am hitting the gym today. My 5 year old has preschool so it will just be my 1 year old in the childcare area. Today might not be pretty for him. Or he might like it. It is hard to say. The women who work there know my little guy and will do their best to make him happy. If need be they will call me back.
So I will start off working as hard as I can because I may only have 15-20 minutes.
As soon as we get back into the routine and he recongnizes faces and favorite toys, we will be set.
I'll let you know how today goes.
Next week - I am starting the Couch to 5K again.
I cannot go Monday because I am babysitting a friend's kids.
Tuesday is out for a doctor appointment.
So that leaves Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday next week.
Goals set. Time to get busy.

C25K Week 1, Day 3, (Post Baby)
We made it to the gym today after meeting friends at the park. Everyone did good in childcare.
I ran/walked for 30 minutes at 6 mph for the running part. I felt really good today and the workout felt too easy. I'll take it!

C25K Week 1, Day 2, (Post Baby)
I made it to the gym with all four kids. Luckily they all like going into the childcare area and had a fun time.
I ran/walked Week 1 of C25K, and then I continued walking at an incline until I had gone 3.5 miles. I am still running at 6 miles per hour which floors me. Maybe the next time I do this thing I can get even faster. Although my goal is not to be the fastest runner. At this point I am just happy to get some time to myself to workout.
I took the 4 kids swimming at the gym after I worked out. All by myself. And it actually went OK. My little Knight (4) wears a life jacket at all times. Princess and Prince are pretty good swimmers although I keep a pretty close eye on the Prince. He is a little on the over-confident side. Princess can touch pretty much around the entire pool. I held little Duke the entire time while keeping an eye on all of the kids. He was so cute in his swim shirt, but I forgot my camera. Next time!
We are going back for Day 3 tomorrow, but without the swimming. We are taking the boat out tomorrow late afternoon and I don't want the kids to get too much sun.

C25K Week 1, Day 2, (Post Baby)
Well the motivation is still there to get to the gym today! Next week is going to be hard to get any sort of run in because Monday is Princess's birthday and Thursday I fly to New York City until Sunday. I will do week 2 the week after next. I am still just excited that my 6 month old can go to the gym again. He really could have gone at 3 months but I was not ready then. He is sitting pretty nicely on his own now and with his 2 brothers and 1 sister in the gym with him, there are lots of eyes watching. They have a nice set-up there too. If I remember I will bring my camera and take some pictures.

C25K Week 1, take 2
I started week 1`of Couch to 5K yesterday and it felt awesome! I ran faster than I have ever run (6mp - very good for me) and didn't feel like I was going to die. I remember the first time around, I felt really horrible and I was running around 4.5 to 5 mph.
I have plans to go back tomorrow and Friday. I took the kids swimming afterward so that was fun too.
It feels like I am making progress after one year off.
